The Community Corner
The Community Corner is a new mixed-use development, combining affordable housing and commercial space. Located near the neighborhood where Daunte Wright was killed in 2022, it's part of a corridor in need of revitalization.
For housing, we'll offer 31 units, all affordable for those earning at or below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI). These units are aimed at individuals experiencing homelessness, those with complex medical needs, and people with disabilities. On-site services will be provided, including a 24-hour front desk. We'll also provide amenity and outdoor space for residents, promoting community well-being.
The development will meet SB2030 sustainable standards, featuring solar panels, photovoltaic water heaters, and EV charging stations, surpassing MHFA's green community requirements.
The ground floor will host commercial spaces, including a workforce center offering vocational rehabilitation services, an area for youth programming, and a youth-led coffee shop. These spaces are in partnership with Intentions, a local nonprofit focused on providing quality programs for youth and families.
As the first project on this corridor aligned with the City's 2040 goals and new zoning code, it aims to enhance walkability and support local retail. Situated in a community deeply affected by civil unrest after Daunte Wright's tragic murder, the project seeks to bring hope and renewal to the area. By prioritizing equity and community involvement, this project redefines traditional affordable housing.
